A little while ago we were approached by Cyprus Petroleum Refining Ltd, the largest Cypriot refining company to undertake the sludge profiling of eight crude oil tanks. The company sent two of its most experienced team members to carry out the work. Over a two week period in the middle of summer the team landed the floating roofs of the eight tanks and commenced the sludge profiling using a tried and tested method of manual dipping the removed landing legs with a brass tipped rod to ascertain the depth and a weight to ascertain the sludge depth. After spending two weeks and dipping over a fifteen hundred points of references between each of the tanks the results were returned to our offices and the results entered into a computer programme and a three dimensional graph detailing the depth and location of the sludge in each tank.
