DAF design parameters are detailed for proper system operation. The manager or operator will learn the key areas that must be accounted for such as rise rate, air to solids ratio and hydraulic loading rate. All of these factors determine a DAF's performance envelope. The data used to calculate that envelope may be found on product literature, websites and simply taking a tape measure to the actual quipment and reading their labels. With this information systems may be compared against each other and the claims made by the manufacturer.
Managing livestock diets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions - Case study
Scientists in South East Asia have been measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from goats and cattle in a series of research projects investigating the effects of different feeding regimes. In each case, the eructed, or belched, emissions from each animal were measured with a portable FTIR gas analyzer from Gasmet Technologies. The research papers have been published by ‘Livestock Research for Rural Development,’ a peer-reviewed international journal for research into sustainable developing world...
Ice Melt Management - Wilkins Aerodrome - Case Study
The Wilkins Aerodrome is perhaps Australia’s most unusual aerodrome, located approximately 70 km southeast of Casey Station in Antarctic Australian territory. The Australian single runway has served as the Antarctic terminal for intercontinental air service since 2007 and it operates between the months of October and March. Problem The aerodrome’s location was chosen to minimize the likelihood of melt, the runway is constructed on glacial ice, 500m thick—and not only shifts approximately 12...
Smart cities risk reputation with poor air quality data
The team at AQMesh continue to receive many enquiries from smart city initiatives and are concerned that integrators risk undermining entire projects by distributing meaningless or misleading air quality information. “Many of the people I speak to are used to dealing with sensors that are easy to ‘plug and play’ and expect to be able to do the same with air quality sensors. This is not helped by the fact that most air quality sensors, sensor systems or ‘nodes’, on the face of it,...
Europe imagines the Port of the Future
On October 11-13 Envirosuite’s General Manager for Europe, Chaim Kolominskas, travelled to Amsterdam to present to the 2017 GreenPort Congress as part of a session on the Port of the Future. The GreenPort Congress is the largest conference focussed on balancing operational efficiency and environmental sustainability at ports. The GreenPort Congress has become a highly important event on the maritime industry’s calendar. Global shipping services continue to increase. There are currently 3029 shipping...
Five years of unprecedented energy savings at Sabey data centers - Case Study
Munters began working with Sabey data centers over five years ago, to customize an air handling solution that will work with Sabey data center`s specific cooling needs and challenges. Five years later, Sabey speaks to their satisfaction with the Munters cooling solution, the better than expected energy savings and a trusted partnership. We went back to the Intergate.Quincy campus and interviewed V.P. John Sasses and Operations Manager, Ryan Beebout to get their perspectives on how the Munters Oasis® Indirect...
