Decreasing Recycling Cost in a Wet/Dry Facility: Learning From Experience
There is a lot of interest in increasing diversion from disposal through a wet/dry system. However, the cost of wet/dry is a concern. An exercise to determine whether or not a dry stream facility to achieve 50% diversion could be built cost effectively. The facility described herein is designed to handle a mixed dry stream of material. By providing amore simplified sorting systems proven effective in other facilities, and placing design emphasis on ensuring that the overall facility overcomes typical MRF configuration, equipment, and sorting/sorter problems, it was determined that MRF capital costs could be reduced by up to 23%.
