Vater is life. The Socio-Economic Development of any country is based on the availability of the water resources. Diie Lo increase iii popuiation, the water resources ate over stretched oRen leading to resource depletion. Tbere is a need to prudently manage this delicate resource. For evcry living organism, water is pecIous for continuing hs life. Everybody is aware of the importance of water. En India. the grounchvater was earlier utilized mainly for drmking purposes in the initial stages and on later part it is being over exploited for irrigation and industrial purposes. About 85% of Drinking water iri India is available througb dug well, bore well, filter point and tube wells etc. The Indian farmers have the age-old tradition of utilizing Ground water for Irrigation purposes. In india during 1950-51, about 65 Lakhs hectares of Iand wcre used for irrigation that whicb has crossed- over to 400 Lakhs plus hectare by now. Also, to feed the planet’s 8 billion inhabitants in 2025, the world will need as much extra water simply for food production alone but not yet satisfying our needs on Drinking, Sanitation, Industrial and lmgation requirements. From where does aH tbe water wiIl come? is a big questiori mark, This paper wiII deal with Ihe ideas of using remote sensing and G.I.S techniqties to ctTective measure to generate data and information for sustainable development of water resources in finding out ateas arnenable for ground water recharge on a regional scale.

Matter of Prime Concern:
lf ihe over exploitation is not curtailed and the ground water reservoir are not replenished properly, we are forcing our future generation to be water starved. Therefore, there is strong need of appropriate and low cosi ram water harvesting technologies in order to artiñcially recharge the ground water reservoir.
