Detection of parathion-methyl on gauze wipes

Courtesy of

MATRIX: Cotton gauze pad (wipe)

ANALYTE: Parathion-methyl

RANGE OF DETECTION: 0.08 mg per wipe (100 cm2)

MATERIALS: EnviroGard Parathion Plate Kit (item #75000). SDI Wipe Extraction Kit. Protective gloves.

Caution: Wear protective gloves for this procedure. Saturate a gauze wipe with methanol. Wipe a 10 cm x 10 cm area (100 cm2) with the saturated wipe. Change gloves between wipes to avoid cross-contamination. Place the wipe on a clean surface, such as aluminum foil, and allow it to air dry (approximately 10 minutes). Transfer the wipe to a bottle/vial containing 20 mL of methanol. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Allow any particulate to settle before proceeding.

Using the precision pipet, transfer 100 mL of the extract directly into 10 mL of deionized water. Mix by inverting several times. This mixture is now measured as “sample” according to the EnviroGard Parathion Plate Kit instruction sheet.
