Challenge:

To improve compliance performance, a national foodservice distribution company contracted with Antea Group to develop and implement a corporate-wide environmental compliance audit program throughout the United States.

Faced with an aggressive six-week project completion deadline, Antea Group scheduled multiple local audit teams to conduct facility audits simultaneously across the country while utilizing the proprietary web-based information management system, iEHS, to gather, analyze and report real-time data back to the client.

Solution:

Engaging its regulatory interpretation experts, Antea Group developed a library of corporate protocols for environmental compliance and conformance. The protocols included 131 items that addressed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Superfund Amendment and Reauthorization Act and the Toxic Substances Control Act, as well as their state-specific regulation counterparts.

After the collection and review of facility pre-audit data, Antea Group deployed teams of local, experienced auditors to complete over 90 facility audits. The audit teams used the audit-specific iEHS module to capture and store data, process non-compliance findings and generate time-sensitive client reports from the field.

Results:

The client benefited through a comprehensive compliance audit program that identified business risks, improved environmental practices throughout operations and advanced overarching sustainability goals across the company.

Due to the success of the program, the client requested Antea Group to help them transition away from their outdated information management system that was not able to keep pace with their changing business needs and implement iEHS in its place. The client found immense value in iEHS state-of-the-art functionality, forward-thinking configurability, and ability to transition data with no loss of key information.

Today, the client continues to rely on iEHS to track completion of corrective actions, manage its permits and permit requirements, monitor facility utility usage data and share best management practices across the company. Most recently, the client is gathering energy usage metrics and will use iEHS to organize, track, analyze, set targets and report on key performance indicators to achieve recent sustainability initiatives.
