Disinfection Performance and Applicable Process Design Parameters of State of the Art Open Channel Vertical Format Ultraviolet Disinfection System
Ultraviolet Disinfection of varying quality wastewater effluent has been determined to be an effective alternative to the use of chemical Disinfection techniques. There are a number of alternative UV system formats available for consideration in plant and process design. The comparative strengths of various formats are examined in detail with specific attention to process efficacy, life cycle cost and manpower demands upon plant staff.
Case histories will be presented for operating sites including Disinfection results compared to life cycle costs for various UV system formats. This paper also characterizes the necessity for a rational model incorporating hydrodynamic behavior and UV intensity in order to improve microbial inactivation.
