Emissions Reduction with Diesel Blending

Diesel technologies are develops by huge rates. Modification of cars with diesel engines make a half of the new cars sold in Europe. The black smoke, noisy engine operation and unpleasant smell remained far in the past. Today diesel engines present not only profitability, but also high capacity and worthy dynamic characteristics. Quality of fuel also is changed. The modern diesel blending has various additives and the biodiesel, thereby raising technical properties of the engine and reducing of emissions in the atmosphere.

Diesel fuel is the liquid product received owing to distillation of crude oil. It is used as fuel in diesel internal combustion engines, and also in gas-diesels. This type of fuel turns out from kerosene and gasoil fractions of direct distillation of oil. The composition of fuel includes alkanes, cycloalkanes and aromatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives. The main and major properties of diesel fuel are the following parameters and characteristics: evaporability, cetane number, temperature indicators, viscosity, sulfur content and stability of storage.

The biodiesel is the oil made from plants, somehow rape, sunflower, soy, palm, coconut oil. This oil will be transformed by a chemical way to difficult methyl air of vegetable oil which then mixes up with diesel fuel. Thanks to that qualitative characteristics of the biodiesel are very similar to characteristics of the “fossil” diesel. It is possible to fill with the received biodiesel the diesel car at once practically. Diesel blending fuel is possible to make in different proportions. Possessing calorific ability for 8% smaller in comparison with the traditional diesel, the biodiesel possesses higher density.

Diesel blending fuel application in traditional diesel engines considerably reduces emissions in the atmosphere of hydrocarbons, oxide of carbon, sulfates, aromatic hydrocarbons and firm particles. Use of such fuel reduces quantity of released into atmosphere toxic and carcinogen substances. Use of the pure biodiesel (100%) can lower risk of cancer diseases for 94%. The mix consisting of 20% of the biodiesel and 80% of the ordinary diesel is called B 20. It reduces risk of cancer diseases by 27%. Biodiesel doesn’t contain sulfur that means when it is burning, dioxide doesn’t arrive in the atmosphere. High content of oxygen in the biodiesel promotes better CO2 burning. Besides, in emissions the content of carbon is reduced in firm particles. That is why diesel blending is perfectly suitable for such technology of emissions control in the atmosphere as catalytic converter. In comparison with the “fossil” diesel, with the burning of pure biodiesel, volumes of emissions in the atmosphere of carbon dioxide decrease more than 75.
