EnviroChemie builds wastewater treatment plant for copper producer Aurubis Bulgaria - Case Study
Aurubis Bulgaria is part of Aurubis Group - the largest copper producer in Europe and the world leader in copper recycling. Aurubis Bulgaria is located near Pirdop and has several production units, like smelter, refinery, sulfuric acid plant and flotation plant.
The contaminated rain water from the production facilities is treated in the new wastewater treatment plant.
EnviroChemie has provided the entire planning, supply of mechanical and electrical equipment, as well as assembly and commissioning.
Plant technology “Made in Germany”
The physico-chemical technology Envochem ensures high process reliability and is customised to the client needs. The high degree of automation of the system reduces personnel costs during operation.
The rainwater treatment plant has a hydraulic capacity of up to 250 m³ per hour. The water, is processed in the plant until it achieves direct discharge quality. Initially the water is treated in oil separator for removal of oil and suspended solids. Within the Envochem unit the physico-chemical water treatment takes place, including the following processes: aeration, coagulation, neutralisation and precipitation, flocculation, sedimentation and final filtration. The sludge from the oil separator and the final sedimentation is dewatered in chamber filter press and then collected for disposal.
The selected Envochem technology enables the purity level of discharged water to be in full compliance with the present best available techniques (BAT) established by the European Commission. A branch current of the treated water will be reused in the production process, thereby reducing the consumption of fresh water, which further enhances the effect of protecting the environment and resources.
The implemented water treatment technology proved to be successful for treatment of water from open-pit mines and underground mines, as well as in the factories for ore concentrate processing.
