Project: Environmental Data Management Support for a Chemical Site

Client: Ford Consulting Ltd

Location: Lancashire, UK

Services: Groundwater and Environmental Data Management, Geographical Information Systems - Support for data migration and environmental data management system

Summary: ESI provided data migration and environmental data management solutions to Ford Consulting Ltd. Data were migrated from a legacy propriety Oracle database into EQuIS 5 Professional SQLServer 2005 Express database. The analysis and reporting included geochemical cross-sections, 2D and 3D chemical concentrations spatial plots and site plans with time-series chemical plots, charts, cross-tab data and chemical statistics

Chemical sites are notorious for collecting large amounts of geological and environmental chemical data. Ford Consulting Ltd was instructed by the site owners to migrate all of the historical geological and chemical data from a legacy Oracle data management system into a standalone commercial environmental data management system. Ford Consulting Ltd contracted ESI for support of the data migration into an EQuIS SQLServer Data Management System and training of their personnel.

Monitoring well installation, geological and environmental chemical data were exported from the propriety Oracle database through use of a series of data export scripts. The data were imported into EQuIS using EQuIS Electronic Data Processor (EDP) with a customised format to accommodate the historical data. EDP ensured the data was verified and validated before importing into the EQuIS SQLServer 2005 Express database.

Once the data had been successfully imported into the EQuIS database, a series of spatial groups were developed to zone the site into areas of interest. Chemical and geology groups were established for consistency of reporting data.

The data were reported using a combination of EnviroInsite and EQuIS 5 Professional. EnviroInsite was used for contaminant spatial plots, geological cross sections and 2D and 3D concentration plots.

EQuIS 5 Professional was used for graphical charts and crosstab reports. Remote assistance was provided throughout the project with the use of web-based desktop sharing tools.

Client Comments: Our client said “ESI provided excellent training and support during the delivery of this project.”
