In order to elucidate the genotoxicity and oxidative damage exerted by coke plant wastewater, we investigated the effect of coke plant wastewater over a concentration gradient of COD
40–640mg/L on the micronucleus formation in the roots and the antioxidant enzyme activities in the roots and the leaves of
. The results suggest that coke plant wastewater can cause genotoxicity and oxidative damage on
. And the increases of micronucleus (MCN) frequencies and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in the tested tissue were induced by the wastewater in a concentration-dependent manner. These results also support the hypothesis that coke plant wastewater might induce toxicity in plants by the mechanism of free-radical-damage.
