First discussions concerning the planning of this treatment plant and its overall concept based on the bio-compprocess were realised in a context of increasing waste fees and a growing centralisation of the waste treatment sector in Germany. Already before the beginning of this project, around the distillery site of Rhadereistedt (near Bremen) - where potatoes are the base for alcohol production, - a number of privately run bio-gas plants for agricultural wastes could be installed based on an intensive public relations campaign and private engagement. Its owners and operators, and the desire to improve their viability, were a major initial factor for the successful realization of the plant concept described hereafter.
