This high school is a multi-building complex with mostly two story buildings. All buildings were constructed using the tilt-up concrete method. The engineer originally specified various gauge wire mesh based on slab type and thickness. The concrete sub-contractor had a lot of experience and confidence using Propex fibers and submitted alternates for the different types of slabs. The following fibers were approved by the design team: Fibermesh® 150 micro synthetic fibers were used in lieu of 6x6x/1.4xl.4 wwf in the lightly loaded 4 inch slab on grade. Fibermesh® 650, a macro synthetic fiber was used in lieu of 6x6/2.9x2.9 wire mesh in the 5 in. slab on grade. Novomesh® 850, a blended steel and microsynthetic fiber was used in the 2 in. composite metal deck slabs (4.5 in. total thickness) that originally specified 6x6/2.1x2.1 wwf. Not having to install wire mesh saved time and helped meet the aggressive schedule.
