Ashlyn Park, a $5 million building project will contain 36,000 square feet of commercial space in two stories and offer data storage, training facilities and offices when it opens early next year.
The elevated slab specification called for 6x6/1.4x1.4 wire mesh in the 2 inch metal deck; a total slab depth of 5 inches. The concrete contractor, who was experienced with and favored using fiber reinforcement whenever appropriate forthe project, submitted Fibermesh®650 macrosynthetic fibers, a Steel Deck Institute recognized alternative to welded wire fabric. A comprehensive transmittal was submitted to the engineer and approved. The concrete was pumped, placed and finished using traditional equipment.
The contractor stated, 'We prefer to use fiber reinforcement whenever possible as it saves time, it's less hassle, safer and always positioned properly. We prefer to work with it and ultimately, the owner gets a better product.'
