Fire department protects city with Industrial Scientific area monitors & live monitoring - Case Study
A major metro fire department responsible for fire, hazmat, and public safety duties uses area monitors during large public events to detect gas hazards and determine whether to evacuate the area. The fire department’s previous area monitors were purchased for remote monitoring, but consistent connection issues prevented the area monitors from relaying gas readings to the mobile command center. The first responder manning the command center had to remain near a computer for the entire event to monitor the readings and share them with other first responders over the radio. Adding to the challenge, area monitors had a short battery life and required valuable manpower to change batteries and calibrate to changing conditions throughout events.
Outside of events, maintenance was a struggle. Without clear data on device use and maintenance, it was difficult to determine why an area monitor was not working or how to fix it.
