The development of the voluntary certification was led by CSA America with the assistance of industry stakeholders, including The Climate Registry, California Climate Action Registry, California Air Resources Board, Chicago Climate Exchange, as well as subject-matter experts from organizations across North America. John Shideler, GHG Program Manager, NSF International Strategic Registrations was one of the first graduates to receive his certification.
'CSA has performed a valuable service to the greenhouse gas verification industry overall by designing a rigorous Greenhouse Gas Verifier Personnel Certification program,' says Shideler. 'I hope its use within the industry becomes widespread.'
Certification helps provide an added level of confidence to the industry by recognizing individual verifiers who have demonstrated their ability to apply the knowledge and skills required to conduct verifications. GHG Verifiers certified under the CSA America program have demonstrated technical and auditing experience and achieved the pass score on the certification exam. The GHG Verifier certification is designed to complement accreditation programs for verification bodies, including American National Standard Institute's Greenhouse Gas Accreditation Program. A database of certified GHG verifiers is accessible to the public on CSA America’s website.
