Getting The Most From Air Pollution Control Systems
Today’s air pollution control systems (APCSs) use high-efficiency heat exchangers, natural-gasfired burners, industrial-grade blowers, electric or pneumatic actuators and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to ensure safe and efficient operation. However, dependable performance and a long life expectancy are contingent on thorough inspections and preventive maintenance at regular intervals. Downtime can cause lost production and/or severe regulatory fines, costing a company substantial dollars. This article reviews the maintenance requirements for three basic APCS designs: catalytic oxidizers, thermal recuperative oxidizers and regenerative thermal oxidizers.
