Global Warming - a Hot Topic
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has consolidated data from a number of renown institutes, and has concluded that 2018 is yet another year with notably higher global average temperature on the surface of the earth than what was observed in the pre-industrial era.
Looking at the long-term trend over the past decades, the temperature keeps rising. This results in more and more extreme weather and climate events, in the long run having global-scale effects on for example availability of clean water, agriculture and food security, and population displacement.
WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas concludes that “greenhouse gas emission reduction and climate adaptation measures should be a top global priority”, and it is hard to argue against that.
