According to recent data, published by EWG, 110 million Americans could possibly have Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contaminated drinking water sources.

While these chemicals have been in use for many years, the extent of their environmental and human impact is only just beginning to surface. As of March 2020, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) had identified 1,477 locations across 49 US states that are known to be contaminated by these compounds.

This fluorine based chemical and its synthetic variant compounds accumulate in the tissues of fish and other organisms, becoming more concentrated up the food chain. This chemical laden industrial wastewater discharged into waterways does not only affect aquatic organisms such as shellfish and fish, but also animals such as birds and humans that utilize these organisms as a source of food.

The rapid expansion of manufacturing industries globally has not only resulted in an increase in atmospheric emissions such as CO2 and other pollutants, but it has also led to an increase in industrial contaminants entering our freshwater treatment systems. Some of these contaminants, such as the PFAS family of chemicals are used to manufacture a wide range of common industrial and household products, including paint, polish, fire-fighting foams, food packaging, non-stick frying pans, water repellent, stain-resistant products and fabrics are known carcinogens that do not readily break down in the environment. Without intervention, these chemicals can continue to persist in our environment for forever.

Recognizing that contamination of water sources by industrial chemicals such as PFAS and other emerging pollutants was increasingly becoming an issue which could threaten both environmental and human health, the team at GWT decided to take on this growing problem head-on.

However, due to the scope and extent of the issue, we realized that a conventional approach was insufficient, therefore, we needed to think outside of the box to effectively solve this problem. Our innovative approach integrates advanced oxidation technologies with specific existing water treatment methods, which when combined together offer a much more efficient method of removing hazardous industrial chemicals such as PFAS from wastewater and drinking water sources.

GWT's advanced oxidation water treatment systems utilize treatment technologies to speed up the rate of oxidation, offering a cost effective, compact, modular solution for treating persistent industrial pollutants such as PFAS, GenX as well as other specific pathogens and emerging contaminants in these water sources.

These state of the art water treatment technologies can be used to serve industrial water treatment applications allowing them to be used in various industries to treat wastewater. It can also be used by small/midsize municipal drinking water treatment plants to ensure that drinking water supplied to consumers is free from harmful contaminants that seem to be abundant in the environment today.

Our mission is to assist industries, governments, water managers and other key role players to improve water quality in freshwater and wastewater systems globally. This emerging technology is the new frontier, in preventing PFAS and other harmful chemicals from contaminating the food we eat and the water we drink.

By improving environmental health, we can combat the effects of climate change and emerging contaminants to ensure access to clean water for communities across America and around the globe.

A world with access to a safe and clean water supply is possible. We invite you to join GWT in this mission?
