CSE encouraged the organization to go beyond legal compliance, achieve an internal common understanding in the field of social responsibility, and to complement other initiatives for social responsibility. CSE assessed Athenian Brewery’s sustainability performance against the criteria of ISO 26000.

About… Heineken International (Athenian Brewery)

Heineken International has wide presence through a global network of distributors and breweries, owning and managing one of the world’s leading portfolios of beer brands as one of the world’s leading brewers in terms of sales volume and profitability. Athenian Brewery is one of the major production and distribution companies within Heineken International, and has a turnover of 450m Euros.


Athenian Brewery required an international standard to measure its contributing to sustainability.

Project Results and Impacts:

  • Improvement  of  relationships with partners, government, the media, suppliers, customers and the local community
  • Reduced  likelihood of stakeholder conflicts, bad publicity and reputational crisis
  • Implementation of an international standard for the incorporation of CR Principles in the corporate strategy
