The Renda Industrial Park (RIP) in TaSheh, Taiwan, was required to expand and upgrade its existing 10,000 CMD (2.6 MGD) treatment system to 23,000 CMD (6 MGD) in order serve its expanding client base, and at the same time meet a new < 100 mg/l effluent COD standard. The existing wastewater treatment system of primary sedimentation and extended air activated sludge with chemically assisted precipitation was only able to produce an effluent of 150 – 250 mg/l COD. There was limited space to expand.
After extensive evaluations and pilot tests, a PACT®/Wet Air Regeneration system was installed with minimal expansion of the existing system. Solids handling/disposal became less of a problem in the new tertiary plant than previously experienced – all residual solids could go to a sludge drying bed. Now, the expanded and upgraded plant produces an effluent of < 100 mg/l COD with less solids to disposal than previously, fits into the space of a secondary treatment system, and eliminates the odor and VOC stripping problems as
