Immunoassays are one of the most powerful of all immunochemical techniques. They can be employed in a wide range of methods to detect large numbers of different compounds. In this paper, the principles of immunoassay will be explored in general terms. This will be followed by a more specific discussion of the application of these principles to the measurement of pesticide residues in food and water samples. (Note - For a more detailed treatment of these subjects refer to the 'Bibliography' found at the end of this paper.)
