Introduction to Solar Energy
Solar energy refers to solar radiation energy. Since the formation of the earth, organism relies on the light and heat provide by the sun to survive. But nowadays, the application of solar energy has been widely paid attentions. In recent years, an increasing numbers of people pay more attention to it not because of its characteristics of the inexhaustible, but also our increasingly scarce oil resources.
Solar energy is a kind of energy that comes from the sun. Most of the energy human being requires comes from the sun directly or indirectly. Early in human history, variety of plants stored solar energy into the plants themselves with photosynthesis by converting solar energy into chemical energy. The formation of coal, oil, natural gas and other fossil fuels has taken a long time with the wreckages of all kinds of animals and plants underground. It is the energy comes from the sun indirectly.
The essence of solar energy is the result of nuclear fusion reaction which comes from the sunspot in the internal or the surface. The average intensity of solar radiation in earth orbit is about 1,369 w/ . The equator is about 40,000 km, and according to it we can estimate that the energy reaches the earth is 173,000 tw in total. The standard peak value in the sea is close to 1w/ , and the average radiation intensity of the surface of the earth is 0.20 kw/ every 24 hours in a year which is equivalent to 102,000 tw. The solar radiation that reaches the earth atmosphere is just 1/2,200,000,000, but it has been as high as 173,000 tw which is equivalent to 5,000,000 tons of coal. And wind energy, hydropower, ocean thermal energy, wave energy and tidal energy as well as some other kinds of energy comes from the sun.
Solar energy is the energy that human beings rely on to survive, including all kinds of organism. Nowadays, the solar energy is mainly used for power generation, although solar energy is inexhaustible, the solar energy density is low, and it varies from place to place and changes from time to time, this is the main problem which human beings have to face and to be solved. These features will make solar energy a limited using in some place where there is not plenty of sunshine.
To take advantage of solar energy has two ways: the first one is passive using; for example, solar energy is essential as a method of food preservation, such as salt and salted fish. The second one is photoelectric conversion. Solar energy is a kind of renewable energy. The biggest advantage of solar energy is that it is inexhaustible on earth. And it is the basic source of many other kinds of energy, such as wind energy, chemical energy, the water energy and so on. It is called the 'green energy' friendly by scientists because of its characteristics of no pollution to the environment.
In short, solar energy is creating a new life for humanity, and make humans step into a new era.
