When you're working on the field, always remember to apply best practices and job safety analysis (JSA) to ensure a safe workplace. Below are insights into the JSA process, and how it helps manage occupational incidents.

Various organizations, such as the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), publish Safety Alerts  to promote safe practices. As a safety advocate, you might post these alerts in common places like the kitchen, printing areas, and stock rooms, but chances are most people will pass them up. It’s not because they don’t care, but rather think health and safety incidents are unlikely to happen to them - even though it’s always in one's best interest to take extra precautions.

A JSA is just one of many ways you can control occupational hazards. The JSA process is designed to identify potential workplace safety hazards, and provides employees with recommendations on how to reduce and eliminate these risks. It’s a good habit to perform JSA before you begin working on a task, especially when heavy machinery is involved.

There are many resources and tools – like risk management software – that help you manage safety-related incidents. With risk software, you can continuously monitor risk and hazardous activity, assess each one, and apply lessons learned to reduce future incidents. There are additional resources available such as lessons learned published from other companies for your benefit. This helps your entire team to thoroughly examine all risks and take the right steps to work, the safe way.
