Formaldehyde in rainwater at Trombay, Mumbai: a coastal site in India
Formaldehyde was measured in rainwater samples collected at a residential area of Trombay, Mumbai (a coastal site in India). A mean concentration of 2.1 µmo1/1 and a range of 0.4-11.0 µmol/l were observed. The mean formaldehyde concentration in rainwater has increased from 1.2 µmol/l in 1979 by a factor of about two at this site. Keywords: coastal site, formaldehyde, India, ...

South Korea leads the way of rainwater harvesting
Interest in the benefits of rainwater harvesting is becoming widespread in South Korea, which now has 47 “rain cities”. The potential for developing regions to leap ahead in water affairs, by-passing the exposed shortcomings of centralized western systems is never more obvious than in the matter of rainwater harvesting (RWH). Loosely named “rain cities” by Mooyoung, ...

A methodological strategy to analyze and improve the French rainwater harvesting regulation in relation to quality
In 2008, France implemented a regulation framework for rainwater harvesting (RWH). This framework implicitly defines several categories of rainwater quality for different uses through specific technical requirements to be implemented. This paper presents a detailed analysis of these requirements. Then, results concerning the bacteriological and physicochemical water quality from past on-site ...

Water supply methods in Ancient Thera: the case of the sanctuary of Apollo Karneios
The same natural water sources which enabled people to settle the island of Thera in the 8th century BC, are still visible today on the hill of Mesa Vouno. An extensive infrastructure for the exploitation of rainwaters was established in the city of Ancient Thera on Mesa Vouno, which is striking for the quality of its construction as well as the inventiveness of its builders. Rainwater followed ...

How supply system design can reduce the energy footprint of rainwater supply in urban areas in Australia
In Australia rainwater tanks are used in cities to reduce demand of mains water and increase the resilience of cities to drought. Rainwater is collected in a tank and supplied to a dwelling through a small pump. Typically the energy footprint for rainwater supply (in kWh/kL) is higher than for centralised water supply, but it can also vary markedly from dwelling to dwelling (0.4–11 ...
