King County, Washington provides wastewater treatment to seventeen (17) cities and seventeen (17) local sewer utilities. The County's Wastewater Treatment Division serves about 1.5 million people, including most urban areas of King County and parts of south Snohomish County and northeast Pierce County.
King County desired a commercial off-the-shelf plant operational reporting system, tailored specifically to the wastewater industry, which could integrate the County's SCADA and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) data to automatically generate its regulatory reports; saving the County weeks each month in preparation time and expense.
After a comprehensive three (3) year evaluation process of products within the industry, the County selected the Hach Water Information Management Solution software (Hach WIMS™). Hach WIMS provides the County with extensive reporting and data analysis capabilities at an exceptional value.
Implementation of Hach WIMS included a commercial interface to the County's LIMS; a task that was completed within a very short timeframe.
The greatest advantage of Hach WIMS has been the labor savings in the development of regulatory reports. The weeks it previously took to develop the report have been reduced to mere hours. The core report is completed automatically, with only the need to approve and submit as final. In addition to the regulatory reports, requested weekly reports are now generated automatically, eliminating the previous manual entry.
Access to readily available data has enabled the County to expand its use of the Hach WIMS product. The County now uses Hach WIMS to populate its performance metrics for internal County initiatives, identifying productivity issues and potential cost savings.
Recognizing the significance of the comprehensive data management tool and continuing their collaborative relationship. County staff has worked with the Hach WIMS Development Team to identify potential enhancements in future versions of the Hach WIMS product.
