Land use patterns and organic pollution in the rivers
The riverine system is an important resource of water supply to the communities but rivers are being contaminated due to organic pollutants, which is a serious problem. Organic contamination has been discussed with regard to the different rivers of the world. Various organic pollutants, detected in water and the sediment of the rivers, have been reported. The effects of different land use patterns and anthropogenic activities on the organic pollution of the rivers have been presented. Some models used to predict organic pollution have also been cited. Remedial measures have also been suggested to control organic pollution in rivers.
