Situation
Ämmässuo landfill is located in Espoo, about 20 km from Helsinki. The landfill is the largest one in Finland and one of Europe’s largest. In order to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and eliminate odour problems in the vicinity, the temporary container plants were replaced with 3 compressor stations and 3 HOFGAS® - Efficiency 2000 flares. The project was carried out together with a local construction company. 

HOFSTETTER’s Task

  • Engineering of the compressor stations including functional descriptions, PI-diagrams, layout drawings and manufacturing drawings of the pipelines
  • Complete, low emission combustion
  • Adhere to TA-Luft 1986 regulations
  • Wide regulation range
  • Automatic control of three flares simultaneously
  • Continuous operation at a flow rate of max. 6’000 Nm3/h
  • Readiness to utilise LFG e.g. in gensets at later stage
  • Frost protection

HOFSTETTER’s Solution
Three HOFGAS®- Efficiency 2000 high temperature flares were selected.

Specification:

  • Each flare with max. gas flow rate of 2000 Nm3/h
  • Max. total burner capacity 30 MW
  • 1st flare with regulation range 1 : 10
  • 2nd and 3rd flare with regulation range 1 : 5
  • Low emission combustion at 1'000..1’200°C
  • Residence time min. 0.3 sec
  • Flare control via PLC
  • Automatic control of combustion temperature
  • Operator terminal with LCD display in lockable, weather proof and heated control cabinet
