Motor Oil Moisture Matters
Welcome to Moisture Matters – the show where we take your everyday and not so everyday objects and test them to see which has more moisture. For Episode 5, we’re testing used motor oil against new motor oil. Which do you think will have more moisture?
The Computrac Vapor Pro XL is a water specific, chemical free Karl Fischer alternative. It correlates well with Karl Fischer and conforms to ASTM D7546-15: Standard Test Method for Determination of Moisture in New and In-Service Lubricating Oils and Additives by Relative Humidity Sensor. Customer Testimonial – Computrac Upgrades Moisture Testing at Leading Lubricant Test Lab
The folks at Engineered Lubricants were running into issues when performing moisture analysis on some of their motor oils, greases and thicker additives using Karl Fischer. Samples were not dissolving properly and tests were taking too long to complete, causing the team to question the reliability of results. The addition of a Computrac Vapor Pro series moisture analyzer to their lab has made it easier to reliably test those difficult samples and the team now relies on their Computrac to test many of their incoming samples. Overall, they say that “the results from moisture testing on the Vapor Pro are very comparable to those found using the Karl Fischer. It is also easier, faster and more cost effective to use your machine.”
