Numerical investigation on gas flow and pressure drop for 90° rectangular ventilation bends in low Reynolds number

The gas flow and Pressure Drop Coefficient (PDC) for 90° rectangular ventilation bends in low Reynolds number are investigated by numerical simulation. The different geometrical dimensions and operational conditions with normalised experimental design, including 1/2, 1/1 and 2/1 of the width height ratio b/a, 1/4, 1/2 and 1/1 of the curvature ratio b/R, and 0.1 × 105, 0.5 × 105, and 1.0 × 105 of the Reynolds number Re, are employed to model bends, respectively. The results indicate that b/a, b/R and Re play an important role on flow pattern and pressure drop. Finally, based on the computational data, a useful semi-empirical correlation is obtained to describe the PDC performance by multiple regression method.
