Greyline Open Channel Flow Monitors were installed at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Long Sault, Ontario when the SBR plant was originally commissioned in 1995. But after 16 years of continuous service, components for the old models became obsolete. Plant operators Caneau Water and Sewage Inc. decided to replace the instruments and new Greyline OCF 5.0 Open Channel Flow Monitors were installed in 2011.
Plant influent is monitored at the Long Sault WWTP through two 6' Parshall flumes. Greyline's Intrinsically Safe ultrasonic sensors are installed above the flumes and OCF 5.0 electronics enclosures are mounted in the plant control room. Daily influent flow summaries are required for the plant's operation permit issued by the Ontario Ministry of Environment. Operator Clark MacDonell of Caneau Water and Sewage Operations Inc. uses the OCF 5.0's automatic reporting system to gather daily flow reports including total flow, minimum, maximum and times of occurrence. The flowmeter displays reports on its backlit LCD display or by download to a USB flash drive.
