The 2005 International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) will be held 15-19 May 2005 in Miami Beach, Florida, USA. More than 2,000 people from 50 countries are expected to attend the conference, whose official theme is, “Prevention,
Preparedness, Response and Restoration — Raising Global Standards.” The theme includes a view toward the future with special emphasis on appropriate strategies for improvement. This IOSC is the 19th biennial gathering since the first event in December 1969. The goals of this conference remain much as they were in 1969: “...to delineate the overall
dimensions of the oil spills problem, explore the present state of the art of prevention and control of oil spills, and review the relevant research and development efforts of government and private industry, both here and abroad.”
According to conference organizers, IOSC is the preeminent gathering of oil spill response experts from around the world and is a unique opportunity to catch up on all major developments in the field and interact with the most knowledgeable people tied to those activities. In all, there will be exhibits from 180 US companies and 14 firms based in Europe, South America, the Caribbean, Canada, Africa, the Orient, and the Middle East.
