Optical Polishing

A mid-western firm who manufactures a large amount of specialty eyeglass lens was having a problem removing lead from their wastewater stream. This stream was a combination of the grinding effluent waster and the wash stream containing cleaning compounds. The normal effluent stream had a pH of 11- 11.5.

The sample was treated without pH adjustment with the addition of Floccin-HP. The dosage was 0.25 grams in 100 ml. The jar was shaken moderately for 30 seconds and formed a good flock with clear water separation. The production process used the Floccin-HP in conjunction with IE-061 Metal Grabber and the lead was reduced from 37 ppm to 3.4 ppm.
