The integration of distributed generation (DG) at the load centres with the grid is a challenging task. This paper deals with the best location of DG as well as a proper share of loads between DG and grid that will yield the most economically efficient results. The optimal allocation of DG in distribution network is very common with an objective to minimise the losses. Loss minimisation is a good objective function, but is not always economical, as it does not capture the overall operational cost. The profit of Distribution Company (DISCO) that installs DG in its network has been chosen as objective function to be maximised. Voltage rise resulting from the connection of DGs may be a major obstacle to their connection in distribution network. This paper addresses the voltage rise issue. The studies are based on an existing Indian rural distribution network for time invariant and time variant loads.
