Pfizer is the world’s leading research-based biomedical and pharmaceutical company. Operating in over 150 countries and over 25 languages, Pfizer is a globally recognised brand. With a stated mission of applying innovative science to improve health, Pfizer is responsible for some of the world’s well-known and life saving medicines and spends $8.1 billion a year on research – more than any other company in the world. The research, development, manufacture and marketing of its medicines is carried out across numerous global locations by over 85,000 employees.
As part of its commitment to a healthier world, Pfizer has a strategic target to reduce energy consumption. Pfizer Ireland identified a requirement for an automatic Monitoring and Targeting solution to help achieve this locally. They require a solution that integrated data from separate monitoring and metering systems into a single accessible automatic Monitoring and Targeting software suite.
Due to Pfizer’s strict requirement for zero impact on their IT infrastructure, common among pharmaceutical production plants, they required a solution that had no impact on their network and no software installed on site.
An important aspect of the installation was that the solution could be accessed by staff from both Pfizer and also their external energy consultants.
Pfizer Ireland required a solution that could also be expanded to other sites within the group. Ideally it had to be Internet based facilitating the use and sharing of energy data between sites. It was also important that the monitoring and targeting software was both sophisticated but also was intuitive and simple to use.
Metering and Data Collection
Pfizer Ireland had a wealth of energy data available within their Schneider Power Logic electricity metering system and also a PI Historian system.
15 minute interval data is transferred from Pfizer’s sites in Ireland, via eTransfer, to eSight Energy’s secure data centre in Cambridge on a daily basis. Metering data is then immediately available within eSight for reporting and analysis.
In addition, eSight Energy provided Enercom’s Multilog data collection loggers for logging interval data from gas and steam meters within the boiler house. This data is transferred from the loggers to the eSight installation hosted by eSight Energy.
