Cancer research laboratories working with tumor tissues derived from animal models (1,2) or xenografts (3) face difficulties in homogenizing these tough samples using traditional methods (4). The Precellys homogenizers provides high speed sample disruption based on bead- beating technology for the extraction of DNA, RNA, protein, enzymes and metabolites within minutes. It ensures high reproducibility between biological replicates and no cross-contamination.

Examples of labs

The Institute of Cancer Research [UK], Ligue Nationale Contre le Cancer (France), OSI Pharmaceuticals (US], Hokkaido University (Japan), University of Cambridge (UK], Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (Canada), Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada), University of California. San Francisco (US)

Available Precellys tools

Equipment: Precellys24, Precellys24-Dual, Minilys, Cryolys
Lysing kits used for tumor tissue: CKU 0.5 ml  [for less than 20 mg), CKMix 2ml_, CK28 2mL and 7mL, CK28-R 2ml_, CKMix50-R 2ml_ and 7ml_

Application notes available

RNA Extraction from Breast Cancer Xenografts and Lymph Node Metastases, The Institute of Cancer Research, UK
Tumors derived from breast cancer xenografts and metastatic lymph nodes were homogenized on the Precellys24 for total RNA extraction. RNA quality was analyzed on an electrophoresis gel.
Lipid hydroperoxides (LPO) extraction from tumor and non-tumor rat tissue., University Hospital of Tours, France
Tumors were extracted from rats treated with DHA + epirubicin and homogenized on the Precellys24 for lipid extraction. The Cryolys cooling unit guaranteed a constant temperature of 4 °C within the homogenization chamber.
Total RNA Extraction from Cartilage Tumors, Lique Nationale Contre le Cancer, France
Chondrosarcoma tumors were homogenized on the Precellys24-Dualfor RNA extraction and RNA integrity was analyzed on the Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer.

The Precellys (high-throughput) and Minilys [low-throughput] homogenizers significantly decreases the time spent on tumor tissue processing, and maintains high quality DNA, RNA or protein extraction. The Precellys homogenizers can be coupled with the Cryolys cooling unit to maintain a constant temperature of 4°C, which is particularly important for RNA, enzyme or metabolite extraction.
