Primary clarification evaluation and optimization study

Courtesy of Entech Design, Inc.

This report describes the evaluation and optimization of primary clarifiers at the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant. Part 1 of this report examines the individual effect of the concentration of non-settleable solids, detention time, clarifier depth, sludge blanket level, and design feature of the clarifier on primary effluent quality and removal efficiency. Part 2 of this report describes the results of a full-scale test of automatic control of primary sludge pumping based on continuous instrumental in-situ measurements of the primary sludge blanket level.
