Problems of modern technology

Modern technologies have a profound impact on society in the current age of global competition. Yet, we do not understand the long-term impact of proliferation of technology on society's long-term sustainability. This paper presents one perspective of how the evolution of technology has: (1) brought about mixed results, some of which need to be reconsidered given that the environmental well is not bottomless and (2) outdistanced the economic and political systems, putting in question who is in the driver's seat in key decision-making processes. We argue that the locus of control in the New World order needs to ensure long-term "sustainability" as opposed to short-term "economisation".
