Liberty I, the first commercial Clipper wind turbine was installed in Wyoming's harsh environment in early 2005. Located at Platte River Power Authority's Wind Energy facility in Medicine Bow, Wyoming, the turbine location is remote, with little maintenance infrastructure. The site has subjected Liberty to extreme temperatures, extended high turbulence, and an abundance of lightning, ice and snow. These severe conditions have challenged Liberty and enabled the testing team and maintenance crews to acquire valuable lessons which have been applied to Liberty's production units. Clipper executed a Power Purchase Agreement for the output of Liberty I with the Platte River Power Authority, who now sells the energy to the cities of Fort Collins and Estes Park, Colorado. Historic Medicine Bow is a small town in southeast Wyoming with a population of less than 300.
