Riga International Airport is the largest airport in the Baltic States. RIX Airport acts as a hub for AirBaltic and is part of the network of a number of the largest airlines in the world. To ensure that the airport maintains it function of international access point for the Baltic states, the national Ministry of Transport has entered into an agreement to implement a development project with the aid of the European Union

The “Development of Infrastructure of Riga International Airport” project was started mid-2010 and is scheduled to be completed before the 31st of July. As part of the water management & contingency plan for the airport, contractors are currently improving the rain-water channelling and the drainage for the airfield as a whole.

In order to re-construct the existing water channels, the groundwater level needs to be lowered and a back-up system needs to be in place to make up for the lost capacity during construction works. After looking at the requirement together with Latvian rental specialist SIA Uprent, it was concluded that our brand-new PT150 piston pump would be perfect! By installing each of the diesel driven units on an 80 meter header pipe with approximately 80 wellpoint filters, the groundwater level has been lowered quickly and effectively, much to the clients approval.

To compensate for the lost water handling capacity during construction, the client opted for a diesel driven BA100 to bypass the channels that are being refurbished.

All in all this BBA Pumps powered dewatering system has proven its value and is running almost 24/7 without any problems!
