Purification of natural products - Case Study
“Due to its versatility, the PrepChrom C-700 is a valuable instrument in our natural product isolation based research group, where preparative techniques such as column chromatography, flash chromatography and preparative HPLC are used on a daily basis.”

Application: Purification of natural compounds from microorganisms
Antimicrobial Cyanobacteria or Actinomycetes are cultivated on a large scale and extracts are generated from the biomass or the cultivation medium using various techniques. These extracts are fractionated using preparative chromatography. The fractionation steps are monitored by analytical HPLC as well as bioactivity assays, and fractionation is repeated until a pure active compound is obtained.
Equipment: PrepChrom C-700
BUCHI PrepChrom C-700 is used for selected separation steps after extraction. The target compounds are purified via Flash as well as semi-preparative chromatography to produce sufficient quantity and purity for structure analysis and bioactivity characterisation.
Benefit / Conclusion: All-in-one and space-saving
The PrepChrom C-700 enables the purification of compounds both via Flash Chromatography and preparative HPLC, thus combining two instruments that are routinely used in natural product isolation in one apparatus. The small footprint makes it suitable as well for crowded and small laboratories.
