PuriTech dominates this year’s IChemE Water Awards
Both prizes awarded at this year’s prestigious IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) Water Awards (sponsored by the IChemE Water Subject Group) have recognised PuriTech’s revolutionary development and improvement of the ion exchange process. PuriTech, a leading international separations technology company, won an award specifically for
their innovative IONEX technology, which has a variety of applications in industries from water treatment through to sugar refining and mining. Anglian Water won the other prize, which recognised their advanced system for removing nitrate from drinking water, a process that relies on PuriTech’s expertise and ion exchange technology.
Over 400 process industry professionals and their guests gathered in London to celebrate innovation and excellence at the Awards – winners were announced across 12 categories from a short list that included 45 entries. The Awards ceremony was designed to highlight cuttingedge innovation and excellence in chemical engineering and coincided with IChemE’s 50th anniversary of receiving Royal Charter status. The annual awards programme recognises and promotes organisations which make outstanding contributions to safety, the environment and sustainable development in the
process industries around the world.
Speaking at the Awards, Peter Brewer, General Manager at PuriTech said “We are absolutely delighted to have received such a major endorsement of our technology at these awards. IChemE have recognised the effectiveness of our unique approach to ion exchange, which can provide cost savings and reduced environmental impact across a range of applications in many industries.”
Working closely with Anglian Water and ACWA Services, PuriTech’s engineers developed a specific application which uses IONEX ion exchange technology to reduce the nitrate content of water. This ensures it is well within the current EU limit of 50 mg/l, helping to eliminate health problems such as the blood disorder ‘blue baby syndrome.’ David Brown, Chief Executive at the Institution of Chemical Engineers said “Chemical and process engineers across a huge range of industry sectors are working hard to develop a cleaner, greener and more sustainable world for generations to come. Our awards, in this our 50th anniversary year, highlight some of the groundbreaking
work that is going on across the globe in all types of organisations, from centres of academia, to SMEs and large global brands.”
