Radioactive waste management technologies used in rehabilitation of radioactively contaminated facilities and areas at the RRC 'Kurchatov Institute' site
Activities on rehabilitation of eleven temporary radwaste repositories are currently underway at the RRC 'Kurchatov Institute'. Technologies used for exploratory drilling of repositories, their radiation survey, cleaning fill-up soil from the repository ceilings and opening the ceilings, RW extraction, sorting and packing in containers are presented. The radiation situation at the repository site as a whole was monitored with the help of a new gamma locator. These activities resulted in extraction and removal from the Kurchatov Institute site for long-term storage of more than 600 m³ of the waste with the total activity over 3.8 × 1012Bq (about 105 Ci).
