Rainwater recycling system for Aylesbury prison
Aylesbury Prison, in Buckinghamshire, will cut its mains water usage in its new block by up to 50%, thanks to its new Aquaco rainwater recycling system.
The rainwater recycling system will include 2 X 6,750 litre GRP collection tanks, water filtration and UV disinfection units.
The recycling system is controlled by an Aquaco Master Control Unit which includes dual, duty and assist pumps and 200 litre break tanks which supply mains water in the event of insufficient rainfall.
The rainwater system also includes a temperature alarm to warn when conditions are ideal for bacterial growth within the main collection tanks.
Aylesbury holds the longest sentenced young adult males in the English prison system.
There are 443 young prisoners in single and double cells in eight residential wings.
