Remediation of a Community’s Cluster System Sand Filter Utilizing Continual Biological Augmentation

This case study investigates the use of continual microbiological augmentation to remediate a community sand filter serving 22 homes in upstate New York State. The problem identification, solution development, plan implementation, and results phases of the project are covered. The project saved the community several thousand dollars over other proposed solutions while increasing treatment efficiency of the community sand filter, which was over 20 years old.
