The planned research project IWRM Vietnam, Dong Nai River Basin Phase II is a joint venture project, in which multiple partners from Germany, all in cooperation with partners in Vietnam elaborate the subject IWRM in the project area of the Dong Nai River Basin in Vietnam in its various aspects.

The Dong Nai River Basin is located in the south of Vietnam and is, with an area of 35,000 km2, one of the three largest river basins in Vietnam. Unlike the other two major areas, the deltas of the Mekong and Red River, it is located largely on vietnamese territory.

Due to the rapid economic development in the Dong Nai area, the water resources management is strongly affected by increasing environmental problems. Currently, the monitoring in the Dong Nai River Basin is characterized by: low monitoring station density, no target- Remote Monitoring of Ground Water and Surface Water as Part of the IWRM-Project Dong Nai River Basin, Vietnam oriented monitoring, responsibilities and data are dispersed across different institutions, data sharing and strategic coordination is weak.

The goal of this subproject is the development and implementation of a comprehensive water data monitoring and management system with which initially, in the project area, all data is collected (groundwater, surface water, well data, precipitation, etc.), managed and then evaluated as well as interpreted ondemand. A comprehensive and controllable monitoring system which combines all data and all requirements even from competing users like environment, agriculture, industry and supply is of fundamental importance for a sustainable and target-oriented economic development and a central task of the National Target Programme (NTG).
