Renewable energy rural business hubs in China and India
Currently, 56 percent of India’s 700 million rural residents lack adequate and/or reliable power supplies. The United States is leading this project to increase access to cleaner, more affordable energy services in rural India. The initial combined effort will cover up to four pilot sites, with the intention of creating a business model that will result in an ongoing flow of commercial projects. Seven other distributed generation plants based on a “rural business hub” model and totaling 25 MW are also in development. These projects are expected to employ over 4,000 people. This effort may be replicated elsewhere in India and/or in other Partner countries.
