Reproducibility of capillary flow pormetry results Obtained with the POROLUXTM 1000 application notes

The reproducibility of measurements with the POROLUXTM 1000 was calculated by measuring commercial Polycarbonate track etched membranes (IT4P). These are hydrophilic membranes of thickness 24 ìm and nominal pore size, provided by the manufacturer of 1 ìm.

In this study, 15 membrane coupons of the same batch number were characterised using Porefil as wetting liquid. All parameters were kept constant in all tests. A total of 30 points (measurements) were acquired for the wet curve while only 50% of the points were registered for the dry curve, in the pressure interval 0-0.6 bar. The first bubble point (FBP) or maximum pore size was measured taking to account the FBP principle of measurements described in our application note “Determination of the FBP”. Also, the mean flow pore (MFP) size (which indicates that half the flow is through pores larger than this diameter) and the minimum pore sizes were obtained. The values and their respective errors are showed in the table 1.

The low standard deviation for FBP, MFP and smallest pore sizes (0.02, 0.025 and 0.04 ìm respectively) show an excellent reproducibility for the results obtained with the POROLUXTM 1000.
