What is NEPA?
- National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 is the basic national charter for protection of environment triggered by any project, whether federal, state or local, that involves funding or work performed by federal government
- Essentially a national policy to encourage “productive and enjoyable harmony between man and his environment”
- NEPA requires that federal agencies consider the environmental consequences of a decision to undertake a proposed major action
- Evaluation of possible environmental, health & safety and societal impacts
