School street hydro - Case study

The School Street hydro plant was built in 1915 and overlooks the Cohoes Falls on the Mohawk River. Located in the heart of Cohoes’ Harmony Mills Historic District, the powerhouse was completely restored by Brookfield, who called upon CHC to provide a replacement headcover for one of the existing Francis units. The new headcover was designed using a weld fabricated process and evaluated using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to confirm its strength and load bearing capacity. The replacement headcover was delivered in under twelve weeks
